For a long time, the Fuggers determined the fortunes of the city of Weissenhorn, which is located about five kilometers from the Illerradweg. If you're interested in the history of the city and the Fugger, it's worth making a detour to the two castles and the Weißenhorner Heimatmuseum. Here in Oberkirchberg is "Fugger light": This magnificent castle was once built by the Counts Fugger-Oberkirchberg and is still the residence of the count's family.

In 1498 the area became part of the Duchy of Bavaria-Landshut, but was sold to the Fuggers in 1507. The Counts Fugger von Kirchberg still have their seat today in the castle built in 1767 by Franz Anton Bagnato.
