The Memorial to the Victims of the 1972 Olympics is a sculpture by the German sculptor Fritz Koenig (1924-2017) and bears the title Lament. It was erected on September 27, 1995 in the Olympic Park in Munich and is located at the connecting path from the Olympic Stadium to the former Olympic Village, exactly where a carrier rope of the tent roof construction is anchored. It commemorates the victims of the hostage-taking in Munich.
The memorial is a ten-meter-wide granite beam, which is supported centrally by a pedestal.
