Built in 2000 on the occasion of the Emperor Charles year. Walter De Buck cut down four statues that mark the bridge. He based himself on four of the many legends about “Sharlequin”.
One is about Evil Beth, an innkeeper notorious for her evil tongue. Emperor Charles is depicted here as a horseman. Evil Beth and her servant are to his left.
Apropos, the people of Ghent came up with a name for the statues, “De Krimbollen”.
