The Duhamel slag heap itself, an artificially created mountain of spoil material, is a piece of "newly created geography" by humans.
Tip for cyclists:
The ascent to the Duhamel slag heap is tough, but absolutely doable with an (e-)bike, and the reward is the 360-degree view that extends far beyond industrial culture. It's a perfect stopover on the route between Saarbrücken and the border area towards Saarschleife/France.
