Up until the 1980s, the Mitterteichers celebrated the Hankelbrunnen festival and told the legend of the Hankell. But the source at the foot of the Great Teichelberg has run dry. The cause was the huge quarry on the other side of the Teichelberg, in which basalt was mined for many decades. There has been no dismantling since January 2019, and now a trickle is flowing out of the wooden fountain house again.

Hiking

The Hankerl fountain on the Großer Teichelberg, legend has it that the Hankerl (a dwarf people) buried a treasure here. Not only the fountain is worth seeing but also the forest around the fountain. There are trees here that are more than 200 years old, so a nature reserve has been set up here.
