The church is first mentioned in a document in 1284. Burned out in the Thirty Years' War, it was rebuilt in the 17th century while retaining its Gothic shape. The later extensions and alterations in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, to which the church owes its present shape, attest to various dates and inscriptions. After a long construction period, it was completed in 1896 with the addition of the pointed Gothic helmet as a tower roof.
