The sign pointing to the village and beach of Bolinas at this turnoff often gets stolen, as, according to rumors, they don't want to be discovered by tourists. The lush valley north of the lagoon essentially was formed by the San Andreas fault which the road follows to Point Reyes.

The Marin Coastal and Pacific Coast Bike Route offers a dynamic road cycling experience, weaving through breathtaking coastal scenery and lush woodlands. You'll pedal past dramatic ocean views, white-sand beaches, and rugged cliffs, with highlights like Bolinas Beach and the serene Oyster Vista in Tomales Bay State Park. The route's diverse terrain, from rolling hills to challenging climbs, ensures a varied and engaging ride.

Planning your ride means preparing for a moderate challenge, covering 54.4 miles (87.6 km) with 2383 feet (726 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking around 3 hours and 47 minutes. While many sections boast generous shoulders, some winding parts require sharing the road with traffic. Starting early, especially in warmer months, is advisable, and you'll find amenities in the charming towns along the way.

This route is a significant segment of the much longer Pacific Coast Bicycle Route, renowned for its continuous oceanic panoramas and diverse ecosystems. It's considered a top destination for cycling in the Bay Area, attracting riders globally with its mix of natural beauty and demanding climbs. The opportunity to spot marine wildlife and enjoy views of the Pacific Ocean makes it a truly special ride.
