From Poggio towards Monte Conero – loop tour

    350m

Embark on a moderate hiking adventure from Poggio, exploring the unique blend of mountains and sea in Monte Conero Regional Park. This loop tour covers 3.9 miles (6.2 km) with an elevation gain of 1151 feet (351 metres), taking about 2 hours and 11 minutes to complete. You will traverse varied terrain, from unpaved dirt and stony paths to gravel sections, winding through lush Mediterranean vegetation. Look out for stunning panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea from viewpoints like Belvedere Nord and Pian Grande, which offer expansive vistas of the Bay of Portonovo and Mezzavalle beach. Some descents, especially towards Grotta del Mortarolo and Passo del Lupo, can be steep and slippery, so sure-footedness is important. The trail is generally accessible, but requires good fitness. Starting from Poggio provides a convenient entry point to many of Monte Conero's classic attractions. This area is rich in history, featuring elements like prehistoric caves, Roman-era quarries, and former Camaldolese monasteries. The Monte Conero area is a protected ecological zone, home to a diverse flora of over 1000 protected species and varied wildlife, making it suitable for birdwatching. The trail also includes access to iconic spots like Passo del Lupo, which provides a spectacular perspective on the Due Sorelle rocks, a pair of famous sea stacks.
