Rothenfels on the right bank of the Main between Lohr am Main and Marktheidenfeld is the smallest city in Bavaria with around 1,000 inhabitants. The part of the town on the river is wedged between the water and a steep slope, on which the castle Rothenfels (today conference center and youth hostel) perched, to which the district Bergrothenfels adjoins.
