Murano and the Venice area is considered the cradle of Central European glass production.
The high concentration of glassblowing workshops dates back to the 13th century. For fire safety reasons, all glass furnaces were moved from Venice to Murano in 1295. In this way, the "secret" of glass production should also be preserved. This succeeded until the 16th/17th Century, when the first glassblowers emigrated to the countries north of the Alps.
