Le Four Lighthouse stands on the tidal island of Plateau du Four, about 4 miles west of the Le Croisic coast. The initially 17 m high tower was increased by 6 m in 1846 and now has a firing height of 23 m.
The tower remains in history as the first lighthouse built on the open sea in France.
It was automated in 1983, the range for ships is 19 nautical miles (approx. 35 km).
