According to tradition, John was the Queen's confessor. King Wenzel then wanted to force John to tell him what the queen had confessed, that is, to break the confessional secret. But Johannes refused, whereupon he was tortured and thrown into the Vltava. The dead man was rescued by a miracle. One version reports that the Vltava dried up and that his body was found. In another version, the queen had an appearance of five stars, which revealed the location. These five stars stand for the five letters of "tacui", "I was silent".
