In 1435 the "Capella Oberensingensis", a cemetery chapel outside the village, was inaugurated, which is identical to today's church. The church tower was built in 1624, during the Thirty Years' War.

This is a single-nave village church with a tower above the west gable. The original medieval cemetery chapel was consecrated "to Our Lady" on May 18, 1428. Some remnants from this period are still preserved, such as the arched windows with Gothic tracery and the roof truss above the nave.

In 1623/24, the current church tower was designed and built by the renowned Württemberg court architect Heinrich Schickhardt.

The church acquired its present appearance during the renovation in 1983/84. The stained-glass windows are by Gerhard Dreher.
