Latopie Lake Trail and Overlook

Hike a moderate section of the Pacific Crest Trail from Sonora Pass to Latopie Lake, covering 5.0 miles (8.1 km) with a rewarding 1435 feet (437 metres) of elevation gain. This route takes about 2 hours and 38 minutes to complete. As you ascend, you will wind through open subalpine meadows, revealing expansive High Sierra views and eastward vistas. The trailhead for this hike is conveniently located at Sonora Pass, which sits at 9,624 feet. You will find parking and vault toilets available there, but be aware that there is no water source at the trailhead. Given the high elevation, remember to drink plenty of water and ascend slowly to help prevent altitude sickness.

This trail offers a classic High Sierra experience, showcasing wide valleys like the McKay Creek Basin as you gain elevation.
