"If you seek their monument, look around." There's a tiny spur trail to the south just off of the Chico Ravine Trail. Follow the spur to the top of the knoll surrounded by Jeffrey Pines. There's also a little bench nearby to sit on and admire the beauty of the Big Laguna Meadow.

The Los Gatos Ravine and Chico Ravine Loop offers a delightful escape into the lush, shaded oak and pine forests of the Laguna Mountain Recreation Area. This moderate 5.0-mile (8.0 km) hike provides a refreshing change from the typical arid landscapes of San Diego County, immersing you in fragrant pine scents and varied terrain. You'll traverse single-track paths and old road beds, enjoying gradual uphills and some more challenging "punchy" climbs, all while keeping an eye out for the scenic Laguna Meadow views.

Planning your visit to this Cleveland National Forest gem means preparing for a roughly 2-hour and 13-minute journey with 498 feet (152 metres) of elevation gain. While specific parking permits aren't always highlighted for this particular trailhead, it's a good idea to check for general Cleveland National Forest Adventure Pass requirements, especially if you're parking in a designated area. Arriving earlier in the day is always recommended to secure a spot, particularly during peak seasons.

What makes this loop stand out is its blend of natural beauty and unique features, including sections of the Los Gatos Ravine Trail that double as a mountain biking "flow trail" with banked turns. Beyond the forest, you might spot local wildlife like Acorn Woodpeckers or even grazing cows, adding to the trail's charm. There's even a historical gravesite along a use trail near Chico Ravine, offering an unexpected point of interest.
