The abbey of Baume-les-Dames or Sainte-Odile abbey is located in the Doubs valley in France. Originally named Palma or Palmense Monasterium, the Benedictine abbey (of the order of St. Benedict) was founded in the fourth century, by St. Germain, archbishop of Besançon or by Garnier, mayor of the palace of Burgundy, who died end of the sixth century. It bears the name of St. Odile (v.662-720) who would have hidden there to escape his father and who, according to legend, would have found his sight there. The abbey is rebuilt in the eighteenth century. fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbaye_de_Baume-les-Dames
