Mühlberg was first mentioned in a deed of gift from Duke Hedan to Bishop Willibord of Utrecht in 704. However, the place was already mentioned in a monk's chronicle in 319.
The visitor will find a typical clustered village with lots of things to see, which is home to around 1270 inhabitants.

Mühlberg (Gotha district) is next Arnstadt and Grossmonra the oldest documented Thuringia. In earlier publications, it was referred to as the oldest village in the whole of eastern Germany. The typical cluster village today counts 1,315 annual rings. It was first mentioned in 704 in a deed of donation of the Thuringian Duke Hedan II to the Anglo-Saxon Bishop Willibrord of Utrecht. The village is located at the foot of the Mühlburg, which next to Wachsenburg and Castle Gleichen belongs to the well-known "Drei Gleichen". Mühlberg invites you with a few cozy-interesting corners for a tour.
