Unfortunately, the condition is deteriorating with progressive erosion, which is why it is dangerous to see the castle up close. The rocky cliffs opposite the town of Buchfart are constantly changing due to progressive erosion. The rock castle located there is called a cave castle. The expansion of the complex probably began in the 10th century. It is considered a special feature in the Thuringian castle landscape. Nature has now destroyed a significant part. In 2009, extensive securing work was required on the rock face.
