Richard Schirrmann's first youth hostel in the world can be found in the castle (upper courtyard).
The castle can be reached on foot (somewhat steeper climbs), with the citizen bus from the Langer Kamp car park or with the newer elevator from the city center, which is also an adventure elevator.
