    Built in the 12th century on the banks of the River Witham, Tupholme Abbey operated until the Dissolution of the Monasteries when it was destroyed under the orders of Henry VIII.

    The abbey's name means an island where rams are raised which reflects the historic importance of the wool trade in the area.

    Today, you can visit the Grade-I listed ruins free of charge from dawn until dusk.
