The Brecht House in Svendborg was the home of the writer Bertolt Brecht, who lived here from 1933 to 1939 as a refugee from the German Nazi regime. Some of his most important plays, "Mother Courage and Her Children" and "Life of Galileo", were written in Danish exile. The "Svendborg Poems" were also written here.
