Hiking

A stately old church with a strikingly curved spire, surrounded by a mighty old churchyard wall - this is how the church in Niederwalgern looks to the outside; - an impressive picture, especially in the dark when the church is illuminated. It stands like a fortified castle on a hill in a gently sloping side valley of the Lahn.

A stately old church with a conspicuously curved spire, surrounded by a mighty old churchyard wall. An impressive picture, especially in the dark when the church is illuminated. It stands there like a fortified castle on a hill in a gently sloping side valley of the Lahn. It was built in the 13th century, and has been structurally changed again and again since then.

At the end of the 13th century, a pastor is first mentioned in "Walgern", so that one can assume that the church dates from this century. With its retaining wall, it was obviously built as a fortification. Over the centuries, the church was structurally changed again and again, while the retaining wall was largely preserved.
