And who is venerated in this chapel? Our Lady of Scherpenheuvel, damn it. And Scherpenheuvel, that happens to be the pilgrimage site with a basilica in Scherpenheuvel-Zichem in Flemish Brabant, just about ten kilometers from home. Coincidence. A little to the right of the chapel stands one of the cast-iron crosses with an inscription in the region. If you are here as a hiker, you have probably not climbed the road but have successfully ascended without tumbling into one of the beautiful valleys, with magnificent views over the Maas valley and all the beauty here in the woods.
