Hiking
The freshwater tidal area of De Biesbosch is a rare phenomenon. The Biesbosch is openly connected to the sea via the Nieuwe Waterweg. With high tide, the freshwater discharge from the rivers pushes the river area for about 50 kilometers. At low tide this pressure disappears and the river water flows away again. This causes about 70 to 80 centimeters of tidal difference, also here at the Gat van den Kleinen Hil.
