The Centaur Fountain on Leibnizplatz in Bremen is a real landmark of the Neustadt – powerful, imposing, and a bit "wilder" than many of the city's rather Hanseatic-reserved monuments. The fountain was created in 1891 by the sculptor August Sommer. Originally, it was not located on Leibnizplatz, but was a gift from the Bremen merchant Hinrich Magers to the city. Its first location was Schwachhauser Heerstraße. It was only in 1958 that the colossus moved to its current location in front of the Oberschule am Leibnizplatz.
