Prepare for a challenging hike on the Via Ferrata Fausto Susatti to Cima Capi from Ponale Trail, a difficult route that rewards you with expansive views over Lake Garda. This 6.4-mile (10.4 km) journey involves a significant ascent of 3017 feet (920 metres), typically taking around 5 hours and 41 minutes to complete. As you navigate the rocky ridge, you will encounter sections equipped with cables and iron rungs, guiding you towards the summit of Cima Capi. The trail offers a unique blend of rugged terrain and historical elements, making for a memorable outdoor experience. You will find yourself traversing limestone cliffs and enjoying the dramatic scenery of the surrounding valleys and mountain ranges. You will want to be well-prepared for this demanding route.
To begin your adventure, you can start from Biacesa village, where parking is available near the sports field. Alternatively, if you are coming from Riva del Garda, you have the option to take a bus to reach the trailhead. Given the duration and difficulty, it is advisable to start early in the day to allow ample time for completion before sunset. Always check local conditions and weather forecasts before you head out, as mountain conditions can change rapidly. Ensure you have appropriate gear for a via ferrata, including a helmet and harness, as well as plenty of water and snacks.
This via ferrata is a standout experience in Garda Trentino, celebrated for its unique combination of natural beauty and historical significance. The route not only provides stunning panoramas of Lake Garda, the Monte Baldo range, and the Sarca and Ledro valleys, but also takes you through remnants of World War I. You will pass through old defensive tunnels and Austrian trenches, offering a tangible connection to the area's past. The trail's design, incorporating concrete walkways and iron rungs, reflects its dual purpose as both a recreational path and a historical monument.
