In 1979, the Landesvermessungsamt (State Survey Office) determined the geographical center of Bavaria in the immediate vicinity of Kipfenberg Castle. In 1980, a glacial erratic was erected and inaugurated there as a landmark. In October 2016, the site was redesigned into an open meeting place with seating and an information board.
