The historic Church of Palaiopanayia (also known as the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary) is a significant monument from the Frankish period, built around 1300 AD. It is distinguished by several architectural features:
The church was constructed using cloisonné masonry (a mixed brick and stone construction), with the west side consisting of dressed stone.
It is a church with a free cruciform ground plan and a narthex, which forms a two-part ambulatory around the western transept. It has a dome with an octagonal drum.

The exterior is rich in ceramic decoration, especially on the apse and the dome. Two large stone crosses are embedded in the masonry of the west side.
Inside, there are two layers of wall paintings. The older layer survives only in fragmentary form.
The north chapel is dedicated to Saint Nicholas and depicts scenes from his life.
The south chapel was originally a funerary chapel and contains depictions with eschatological (end-times) themes.
The church is now located in the middle of the local cemetery of Manolada.
