Beinn nan Aighenan

Hiking

5.0

(4)

A rocky, remote Munro, summiting Beinn nan Aighenan in the Starav range is quite an adventure. This 3,150-foot (960 m) peak lies in the Western Highlands, just east of Loch Etive. All ascents involve a lengthy walk-in and it’s a mountain for experienced summit baggers. With tremendous views from the summit, the long approach is easily worth the effort.

Good starting points are in Glen Etive and Glen Kinglass. From the former, you follow Allt nam Meirleach south to Bealachan Lochain Ghaineamhaich before ascending Beinn nan Aighenan proper. From the latter, you can park at Victoria Bridge on the shore of Loch Tulla but the approach is considerably longer.

When you reach the top, Ben Cruachan is beautifully seen. Loch Etive and Loch Tulla glitter below and peaks rise in every direction. It’s tempting to bag more summits while you’re here, not least Ben Starav if you’ve come from Glen Etive.

    Hiking

Beinn nan Aighenan is a 3,150-foot (957 m) Munro in the Scottish Highlands. The ridge from the north is quite rocky and steep in places, but route finding is fine in good visibility. I had a mixed bag of weather when I climbed the mountain in the summer of 2019.
