The fountain was first mentioned on the market in 1501. The fountain house dates from 1564-1565. He was gone after the heavy bombing on April 16. Since 1997, the newly erected fountain has shaped the image of the market again.

The Tuscan Fountain is a defining design element in Zerbst's market square. With its clear proportions and simple form, it draws inspiration from Italian Renaissance fountains of Tuscany and adds a deliberately tranquil, almost Mediterranean touch to the urban space. The fountain forms a counterpoint to the square's historical symbols, such as the Roland statue and St. Nicholas Church, and combines a pleasant atmosphere with artistic merit. Today, the Tuscan Fountain is a popular meeting place and part of the harmonious ensemble that makes Zerbst's market square a place of history, everyday life, and encounters.
