As you venture north amongst the glorious high Carneddau, the terrain within eyeshot evolves from bristling, rocky peaks and ridges to a green sea of gentle summits that still manage to maintain a great height. Hikes to Foel Fras take you to a high outpost at the heart of this verdant ocean, a glorious viewpoint for Conwy Bay and a world away from the jagged crags of Snowdon and the Glyderau.

    Hiking

Foel-fras is probably most notable as the final (or first) summit of the Welsh 3000s – the challenge of conquering all 15 of the region's peaks above 3,000 feet (914 m). The quiet summit gives extensive views out towards the coast and the Conwy Estuary.
