The Kolk is the oldest settlement area in Spandau. A branch of the Havel, the so-called "German Rhine", once separated the old town and the Kolk. This was filled in in 1912 and the street Am Juliusturm was created. With its cobbled streets and half-timbered houses, this part of Spandau still exudes a touch of the Middle Ages.

When visiting Spandau, you should definitely plan a tour of the oldest settlement area in the old town. Most of the people of Spandau simply call the Behnitz Kolk, which means the washout at the bottom of the river. There are wonderful restaurants right by the water and by the old city wall.
