How this large Catholic church came to be built (previously, services were held in the smaller St. Bartholomew's Church, consecrated in 1788):

"On November 9, 1931, a terrible disaster struck the village. While working at the quarry to extract building materials for the Christ the King Church, five men were killed in a tragic accident. [...] In memory of the five killed, a mosaic depicting five angels was created above the door of the portal leading to the elementary school, intended to serve as a constant reminder of the deceased."

Due to the numerous shoe factories in the village, the population of Hauenstein grew enormously towards the end of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century. Had our village in 1886 only about 700 inhabitants, it was 1913 already 1900. The in 1788 inaugurated Bartholomäuskirche had long become too small. Even the second Sunday Mass, approved in 1907 by the episcopal ordinariate, could not solve the problem of space. Therefore, in 1904, the then pastor Eiswirth established a church building.
