Built around 1260, the Grashaus was Aachen's first town hall and was a visible sign of the self-confidence of the citizens, who had had a town council since 1258. After the successor building was erected on the market square in the 14th century, it was used as a court and prison. Above all, serious offenses punishable by death were tried here. Those sentenced to death were publicly beheaded in the courtyard.

The Fischpuddelchen at the Fischmarkt is the symbol for the fish market that used to be offered here.
The Fischpüddelchen is a fountain monument that was built in 1911 at the Fischmarkt. The name "Püddelchen" comes from the Öcher Platt and describes a naked toddler. In the middle of the city center, the Fischpüddelchen was initially controversial, since children in particular were bothered by the nudity. After years of arguments and the police guarding the monument, the citizens of Aachen have learned to love the Fischpuddelchen, as have the many visitors to the city of Aachen.

Formerly already town hall, dungeon, city archive it is now the station “Europe” of the Route Charlemagne and as such above all an extracurricular place of learning.
