On August 27, 1903, the new fountain with the gunsmith was inaugurated on the market square in Suhl. The sculptor Georg Ringel (both from Munich) created the sculpture based on plans by the architect Rudolf Ludloff. The figure of the gunsmith, who holds a hammer in his right hand and a sword in his left, became a well-known symbol of the city of Suhl in the years that followed. On October 15, 1985, the gunsmith, stele and base had to be dismantled. The Meiningen monument preservation company made a faithful copy of the three fountain parts, which found their place on the market fountain on April 15, 1986. The original of the gunsmith was restored in May 1996. The copy was given a new finish during the renovation of the Suhl market square in the summer of 2000. Suhl is a medium-sized town in the Franconian south of the Free State of Thuringia. It lies on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest in the valley of the Lauter and Hasel. Due to the mountain landscape that surrounds it, Suhl is often referred to as the "city in the countryside". Suhl's "local mountain", the Domberg, rises seemingly from the center, at 675 meters. On the opposite side, the Grosser Beerberg, the highest peak in the Thuringian Forest at 983 meters, greets you. Anyone looking for peace and relaxation will find it in the Suhl districts. Everywhere you will find cozy restaurants, huts and cabins that invite you to linger. In winter, there are around 60 km of groomed cross-country ski trails available, plus around 40 km of competition trails. A wide variety of hiking trails, including themed ones, and the Vesser Biosphere Reserve. Source: https://www.thueringen.info/suhl.html

The Herrenteich is an integral part of today's cityscape: the city in the green and a small oasis between the modern buildings. Originally it served as a fire pond and fish farm. Later it became a popular tourist destination. People are now willing to make full use of the pond area with all its possibilities. The following article: The Suhl Herrenteich needs a cure. For the design of its surroundings, the ideas of the citizens of Suhl are not only needed online until December 21st, but also in direct discourse. An exciting one took place on Thursday evening in the House of History in Suhl. Source: https://www.insuedthueringen.de/

Since then, the "wild ride" on which Waldo Dörsch sent Diana hunting with bow and arrow has lost none of its artistic strength and expansive power. By interpreting the ancient goddess of the hunt very freely in her form and characteristics - a horse, for example, is not one of her classic attributes - Waldo Dörsch also avoided an overly one-sided view of the subject of hunting. In keeping with his lifelong artistic credo, he instead opened doors for a broad thought experiment about tradition, craftsmanship, passion, nature... and thus also a piece of urban identity.
