In "A Poet's Bazaar," Andersen's inspiration is clearly evident in the view of the extensive forest surrounding Itzehoe: "It wasn't until the afternoon that a lush landscape opened up; we saw a large grove, whose brown foliage in the sunshine gave the appearance of a copper forest; it had something so entirely fairy-like about it that, just as a large herd of cattle emerged from the thicket and stared at us with wide eyes, a whole fairy tale unfolded before me of the enchanted city in the copper wood." Based on the actual route of his first visit to Breitenburg, Andersen could only have crossed the Breitenburg Forest. The extensive forest was a true rarity within Schleswig-Holstein in the 1840s—indeed, for large parts of northern Germany and Denmark.

The Tonkuhle is a clay quarry filled with water. Very nice paths lead along the shore, but only here and there you can really see the whole pond. Most of the time the view is blocked by the vegetation.

Due to the destruction caused by the harvester, we are currently in the process of replanning, cleaning up, rebuilding and rebuilding. Please look at everything first. Not everything is mobile again yet, but we are working on it. The basic rule is: drive at your own risk. Although the forest owner has given his permission, he is exempt from any liability. So check everything before you drive it
