However, the ditch was not completely abandoned even after the railway was built. Its water powered the machines of the Georgendorf paper mill (Český Jiřetín) until the 1940s. At the end of the 1870s, the factory owner even had an approximately 70-meter-high artificial waterfall created, which was fed with water from the logging ditch and was intended to attract visitors. After the paper mill closed, the ditch gradually fell into disrepair. Only in recent years has its historical significance been increasingly appreciated again. Since 2013, there has been a cross-border educational trail that explains the course of the logging ditch. Some sections now carry water again, including feeding the historical waterfall (Wiki).

You can eat very well here and the Rechenberger beer from "just around the corner" tastes great from the tap.

What a magnificent view! When the path opens up, the whole valley lies at your feet. Turn it into a little treasure hunt for the kids: Who will be the first to spot the towers of Purschenstein Castle or the roof of the Nutcracker Museum from up here? A perfect place to take a short breather, enjoy the panoramic view, and take a beautiful family photo with a panoramic background before continuing on. 🔭 Checked & found to be absolutely family-friendly by @wanderfamilie.erzgebirge

Crossing is possible via a footpath directly next to the main road. Great view from the other side of the dam.
