Today we visit the town of Herrnhut, we start our exploration from the car park, directly opposite the show workshop of the Herrnhuter Sterne. If it is already well-filled with people in the morning, we find ourselves in the middle of the pre-Christmas season. From 1722, religious refugees from Moravia settled here and founded the town of Herrnhut and the Moravian Church. If the star symbolizes the star of Bethlehem, it is a widespread Christmas accessory. We go into the town, but the tree trunk is unfortunately closed. In 1897, Pieter Hendrik Verbeek invented the first assemblable star. Passing the bakery, erected as early as 1735, we reach the Zinzendorfplatz.... https://youtu.be/APY8BgHzpnU

Past the bakery, built in 1735, we reach Zinzendorfplatz. Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf once granted religious refugees permission to settle here. Here is also the Kirchensaal, the central church building, erected from 1756 as a baroque hall church. We step inside, the interior is completely white, with a Herrnhuter star in the center of the ceiling. The interior is kept rather simple, there is neither a pulpit nor an altar, it somehow seems infinite. The current building dates from after 1957, the original building was destroyed in a fire in 1945. A small exhibition brings us closer to the settlements of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine, which have been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2024. The core consists of the four towns Bethlehem in Pennsylvania (USA), Christiansfeld in Denmark, Gracehill in Northern Ireland, and Herrnhut in Germany. Over 1 million people worldwide have joined the Brüdergemeine. https://youtu.be/APY8BgHzpnU

Niederruppersdorf Castle is an 18th-century moated castle built on the ruins of a medieval moated castle that had burned down. In the same year, the present castle was erected on the site by Johann Heinrich Gottlob von Nostitz, canon and senior member of the Prince-Bishopric of Meissen, according to plans by Johann Andreas Hünigen. Architecturally, it is a massive, simple structure built on high, square foundations with buttresses supporting the cellar. The two residential floors are crowned by a three-story mansard roof. The portal on the south side is reached via a double-arched bridge over the former moat and is decorated with the coats of arms of the Nostitz and Minckwitz families. Inside, the ceilings of the upstairs hall and the fireplaces are adorned with Rococo ornaments.

Due to the use of the Christian Mission Society, the building cannot be visited and the grounds can only be crossed on the main path.

Unfortunately, some sculptures have been damaged, presumably by the weather. Still worth seeing and a nice thematic contrast to the tranquil forest.
