Stefan
May 11, 2026, Ave Maria Grotto

The Ave Maria Grotto — also called Lourdes Grotto — is a small Marian devotional site in the so-called „Aichhalder Loch“ near Aichhalden. To the history: The grotto was built in 1897 by the then Sacred Heart Brotherhood. It was created during a time of great Marian devotion, inspired by the apparitions in Lourdes, France. The site is located quietly in the forest and was intended to serve people as a place of prayer and contemplation. Characteristic features are the small bell tower and the simple, nature-connected design. To this day, visitors place candles and flowers there and use the site for quiet devotion and peace. The grotto is considered a small cultural-historical landmark of Aichhalden.

It is a very beautiful tour of around 8 km in length. Easy to walk. Varied and partly - along the stream - a gorge. The town of Rötenberg offers good parking at the church. There is also an inn here where you can relax after the hike.
