Locals often refer to it as the "Wetterkreuz" instead of the Bischofskreuz. The last approx. 100 m to the summit can be managed with a mountain bike, but older bikers should partially push their bikes due to numerous tree roots and stones.

Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria (1821–1912) was very popular in the Palatinate, which at that time belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria. His 70th birthday was therefore celebrated in grand style and monuments were inaugurated or (rest) areas named after him in many places. This was also the case here in Gleisweiler on March 12, 1891, on the occasion of his 70th birthday. (by the way: At the "Privatklinik Bad Gleisweiler" there is a monument commemorating his 90th birthday in 1911!)

This giant sequoia (country of origin: California, USA) was planted around 1880. It stands at the entrance to the beautiful, exotic landscape garden of the "Privatklinik Bad Gleisweiler". (There are other giant sequoias in this magnificent park.) According to the information board on this tree: "Its trunk, which extends to the top of the crown, is covered by a striking, reddish-brown bark. This is soft and fibrous, but difficult to ignite. In this way, giant sequoias survive the forest fires that are common in [California] almost unscathed."

"The church's foundation stone was laid on May 23, 1954. It was named after the reformer Martin Bucer (1491-1551). Inside the church is a bronze cross created in 1977 by the sculptor Gernot Rumpf. Grapevines have broken through the cross at a kind of predetermined breaking point." "The weather cross, consecrated in 1909 by Bishop Konrad von Busch (1847-1910) of Speyer, was created by stonemason Johann Minges and is the highest weather cross on the Haardt mountain range. Locally, it is also known as the Bishop's Cross." Source (quoted verbatim): https://www.kuladig.de/Objektansicht/KLD-272330 The following text (difficult to read) is inscribed on the base of the cross: "Behold the Cross of the Lord! // Flee, you hostile forces! // The Lion of Judah. // The Root of David has triumphed! // Alleluia, Alleluia! // (St. Anthony of Padua)" A vineyard (large vineyard area) in the Southern Palatinate is also called "Bischofskreuz" (Bishop's Cross).

Wonderful, quiet place, gently and idyllically babbling stream with crystal clear water. Unfortunately, the pretty "heart bench" (more like a chair) has been smeared with permanent marker and defaced. A shame... but still worth seeing.
