As is typical on canals, you drive straight ahead without much variation. The path was bumpy in places, then rolled along as if by itself – totally different sections. The bushes weren't trimmed at the time and in some places they were so in the way that you could only drive one behind the other. There are plenty of benches, and on the day we visited (a Saturday in July), it was extremely deserted. This section wasn't the big highlight for me, but maybe a small one 😁

In connection with the expansion of the Raben Steinfelder Oberdorf into a princely summer residence, Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II commissioned the construction of twelve residential buildings along the Leezener Landstraße in 1863 for the families of the stud keepers involved in the Grand Ducal horse breeding operation. The Grand Duke commissioned his trusted court architect H. Willebrand to design these houses, whose neo-Gothic formal language is strongly reminiscent of the English country house style of the early 19th century. This impression is further reinforced by the predominantly English use of brick and the exposed brickwork in decorative patterns of yellow and red bricks. Stepped gables and decoratively designed chimneys and chimney pots complete the impression of English country cottages – all in all, a sensational, unique architectural ensemble for Mecklenburg.
