The last major project, the construction of a fish restaurant on the premises of the fishing cooperative, was completed in 2005/2006. The conditions for almost complete self-marketing have therefore been created. Now, despite declining catches, we hope to always be able to supply all of our establishments with sufficient and fresh fish. There are currently 10 fishermen still working in the fishery. They are facing the challenges of the future, but are also hoping for help from politicians, who should finally create reasonable conditions for fishing.

The remains of the once important monastery are embedded in a park with old trees, including 180-year-old oaks. The main accent of the ruins is the imposing west façade of the former monastery church with the high pointed arch window opening. Caspar David Friedrich painted many pictures of the ruins and thereby sparked a new appreciation, which enabled the complex to be preserved and secured in 1830.

The historic wooden bascule bridge, which connects the two districts of Wieck and Eldena, which are separated by the Ryck, and regulates the passage into the museum harbor, is still operated by hand today with its more than 13-meter-long flaps.
