My favorite route, especially because much has been made possible on a fairly flat terrain. This route is well maintained by many volunteers and has become more beautiful over the years.

In 2023 I came to a closed door because of the European Championship in August, but now I was curious about the latest adjustments: a course that starts on the south side of the VAM mountain with a climb of approximately 460 meters long with a maximum gradient of 16.4%. And while you're there: just ride this pimple up and down from all sides including a cobblestone strip and that 16% section.

Very special place on an active waste mountain. It's a beautiful ride to the top of the mount, but you have to endure the smell.

This has now become my favorite route; not too far from home, usually in tip top condition, because the route is very well maintained. Just a fun route to drive regularly.

I ride this MTB route myself very regularly. You can alternate by, for example, starting from a different parking lot, so that the different parts are more at the beginning or more at the end of your lap. You can also choose whether or not, or half of the extra loop, which, in addition to a beautiful winding single track, also has various TTFs (technical trail features). Not very difficult, but you can choose to bypass them; So-called "chicken runs" have been created for this purpose. In the summer you could even choose to park at the swimming pond so that you can take a refreshing dip after your round. What is also very nice is that the builders have given the various pieces names.

The VAM mountain near Wijster will be closed from mid-July 2023 until the end of August. During the summer, a new cycling course will be constructed on the popular 'Col du VAM' among cyclists. The existing course will also be modified. This is happening in anticipation of the European Cycling Championship, which will be held on the 'Roof of Drenthe' in September.

De Wolden offers a mix of dedicated skill parks and extensive mountain bike routes. You'll find areas like the Col du VAM, which provides both road and mountain bike challenges on a unique former waste mountain. There are also technical skill parks like Nolderbikepark in Linde, designed for improving balance, cornering, and handling jumps. Additionally, the region features natural trails with varied terrain, including singletracks through forests and open fields.
Yes, the Nolderbikepark in Linde (Zuidwolde) is specifically designed for this purpose. The Zuidwolde East and West routes are well-marked with international MTB signs. They typically start from the car park at Oosterweg in Zuidwolde, located next to the viaduct off the N48.
