The bunker, dating from the 1940s, was an ammunition depot during World War II

This bunker from the Second World War was once part of a facility, but nothing of it can be seen today. The other buildings have disappeared and been removed. The bunker probably belonged to the ammunition factory (Moorweg). It is a so-called standard building R661, although it was apparently not used as a collection point for the wounded and was not intended for combat operations (missing Tobruk) Information on the standard building R661: lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Regelbauten/Atlantikwall/RB661.htmInformation on the bunker: germanhistoryx.de/regelbau%20r661.htm

Information board of the Esens local history association. Hidden in the forest and unfortunately already very weathered. Part of the “Forest and Moor Route” from the “Harlingerland Nature Experience” flyer

A weather shelter with lightning protection. You can take shelter here safely during a thunderstorm, even though the structure is made of metal. The municipality has come up with something good 👌
