This narrow path is lined with willow avenues, large gardens, and old farmhouses. The path follows the Vlist River, a river that served as a reservoir for the surrounding polders and was a major transport route for goods. Today, the Vlist is especially popular with hikers, cyclists, and canoeists.

This stallion kept demanding attention and nudging me as I crossed the pasture toward the bridge. Luckily, I made it to the bridge while paying attention. Also, I didn't see a sign anywhere indicating that this section of the path is closed during breeding season. Of course, I might have missed it.

The bridge looked and felt rickety. But if it can carry me, a big, heavy rugby forward, it's still manageable.

I spoke with a club member about the activities taking place there. He mentioned that they were one of the largest clubs (as he put it) in Holland, even though the sport originated in Friesland. The entire complex is being renovated in preparation for hosting the Dutch championships there in the autumn of 2026. Perhaps something to keep an eye on.

If you take the Hoenkoopse Buurtweg, you can park opposite the path and start the route there.

When walking, make sure you walk on the east side. There are still a few parts where cars drive, but the other side is much busier. The view on the west side is also more beautiful. Especially the part between the Vlist and the Dove Gat where many birds are.
