This detour is not worth it because even with our “good visibility” on September 10th, 2023 there was nothing to see here. We looked in vain for a view of the Ahlheimer.

From here you can see the Alheimer (549 m) and the Großer Inselberg (916 m) in Thuringia if the visibility is good. The Alheimer is around 4.5 km from Rotenburg an der Fulda. At the summit stands the 28 m high Alheimer Turm. The Great Inselberg is located on the Rennsteig and is of volcanic origin.

Here is the refuge "Schellbachslücke". A small but fine hut. Very tidy. Two benches are located in the immediate vicinity and offer you a fabulous view of the beautiful Knüll and to Welchrod.

The ford through the Beise and the water playground are always worth a break.
