The fountain head and lion date back to 1550, while the granite basin dates back to the 17th century. Until the construction of the high-pressure water supply in 1891, the city of Sempach's water supply relied primarily on its city fountains and their various springs. Of these fountains, the Town Hall Fountain, among others, still exists today. In 1555, the Lucerne Council authorized the city of Sempach to build a fountain. The fountain head and lion (the original of the lion is in the Town Hall Museum) date back to 1550, while the granite basin dates back to the 17th century (renovated in 1927).
