As with much of Suffolk. Polstead Pond is another gem worthy of a detour

The name Polstead means place by the pool. The benches by the village pond are a great spot to rest and enjoy the peace of a classic Suffolk village, surrounded by history, and picture perfect timber-framed and thatched cottages.

Quiet lane with gravel in the middle. Usually around north essex/south suffolk the descents are either straight and wide, or narrow with blind corners. This is a rare example (for me at least), where the lane is narrow but just as you're approaching the point where you start to wonder if you're going to meet a van or tractor coming around the corner, you can actually see around far enough to maintain speed. And it's like this for a decent stretch, so quite a while where you have to move neither the brakes nor the pedals if you don't want to.
