St. John's Church The small village church in the heart of Erlach is a small gem. A fresco uncovered during the renovation (1988-1993), depicting Herodia and Salome and the beheaded John, bears the date 1504 in one spot. The pottery shards discovered ten centimeters below the floor during the renovation were dated to 1250 or shortly thereafter. Albert Verbeek, a recognized expert on Romanesque architecture, dates the church to the Romanesque period (1020-1250). Special thanks go to Pastor Rudolf Langhans, who saved the church from demolition and initiated the renovation work. A 16th-century wall painting can be seen in St. John's Church in Erlach.
