The Altenburg Chapel is a wayside chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph. Its name, however, does not derive from an old castle, but rather refers to the field name "Altenbünd," which appears in 15th-century Hettingen documents, which derives from Bund/Baind = fence. The chapel rises on a rectangular floor plan and is open to the west. Until the 1970s, a Baroque statue of Joseph stood in the niche on the east wall of the chapel, but it was removed for fear of damage. No information has been found about the age of the chapel, but a renovation is documented for 1903.
